Commission confirmed Urban Project in Smederevska Palanka
At its session held on August 27, 2021, the Commission for Plans of the Municipality of Smederevska Palanka considered and confirmed the urban project for arranging and building a social housing complex at the location of Cerska - Jug Bogdanova. In order to involve the public more widely, the urban project was previously on public display, where stakeholders could make suggestions for improvement.
Over 50,000 inhabitants live on the territory of the municipality, of which Roma make up slightly more than 1% of the total population. Despite the relatively small share of the Roma population, the municipality undertakes numerous initiatives aimed at improving the living conditions of Roma, including the allocation of special funds from the municipal budget for textbooks and school transportation.
However, the biggest challenge for the municipality is to improve the quality of life for Roma. Since part of the Roma population lives in unconditional accommodation in substandard Roma settlements, Smederevska Palanka is making efforts to improve conditions in these settlements. That is why, a team of experts prepared an urban project for the construction of social housing, which creates a basis for providing housing solutions for 51 families belonging to vulnerable groups, most of whom are members of the Roma national minority. In this way, part of the needs of the municipality for relocation and accommodation of the most endangered Roma families and a part of other vulnerable groups that do not have adequate accommodation is solved. The urban project contains conceptual solutions for residential buildings and technical infrastructure in the future settlement, and such projects create conditions for additional facilities such as public and green areas, construction or arrangement of space for sports activities and various social facilities. In that way, an entire urban space around the block of housing units for which an urban project has been prepared is actually being arranged.
Considering that the urban project was successfully explained, which was confirmed by the Commission, a team of urban planners, architects and engineers of various profiles continues with the preparation of the plan of subdivision, on the basis of which construction plots will be formed. This is followed by the issuance of location conditions by the municipal administration for the development of projects for construction permits and projects for the construction of planned roads.
